We have developed techniques to monitor this viewing pressure down to the level of individual. For that, we use the power of social media. The central idea is that the more often a sea turtle appears on social media, the more viewing pressure it is subjected to. With a bit of social media searching and mathematical modelling we can answer questions like: - Which turtles are subject to the highest viewing pressure? - Do these turtles suffer from any injuries as well? - How does the viewing pressure of these individuals as well as of the whole population changes from year to year? For instance, we found that COVID-19 pandemic reduced the tourist pressure on turtles with the overall pressure during 2020 just 25% that of 2019, rising to 50% in 2021.
